Well...there's no garden yet but it's coming.
I've lived in this house for 9 years (holy cow!!!) and I've never done much in the yard. Well, that's not entirely true. I've redone the front flower beds...mostly with shurbs and perennials so there's not much to do each year except clean them up a little. The problem with working in the front yard is the dogs cry the whole time we're out there. Not fun!
Blueberry loves to putter around my mom's garden and Violet, although she doesn't love in the same way Blueberry does, enjoys the yard too.
While I'll never be the master gardener that my mom is, I've decided to tap into her knowledge and do some more gardening in my back yard. That way, we can be out there with the dogs and the girls can be out there alone. I can watch Blueberry putter while I sit on the screen in back porch.
Today, we planted 4 pots...one of carrots, two of tomatoes, and one of bell peppers. We have one more bell pepper plant to plant but we need more soil for that pot. My idea this year is to go small with some pots to see if we can stick with it during the heat of summer. Still, the idea of being able to send the girls out to pick tomatoes, carrots, and peppers is awesome.
We're also going to plant a flower garden along one side of the porch. Lucky for me, I have a master gardener mom and she has lots of stuff growing that she's offered to share. She also gives me lots of advice on what to plant and where. I have waiting for a spot some ornamental grasses, a crape myrtle, and a vitex tree. I'm not sure what else we'll put in there except that we're going to do a fairy garden somewhere in there for the girls. They are so excited!
It all sounds so nice right now, while the weather isn't too hot. Cross your fingers we don't let it all die in July and August.
